IBC 2005

The right players at the right time and at the right place can summarize what IBC is all about according to the Fischer Connectors Group CEO, Dominique Glauser.

The broadcast industry is living a transitional period from SD to HD. The introduction of a new technology necessarily revitalizes a market as it implies changes throughout the whole chain of players: investments to decide, equipment to replace, staff to train… in short a risk to take! Being the leading event for professionals of the broadcast industry, IBC offers the opportunity to meet all the people involved in the evolution of HDTV. End-users, decision-makers, journalists and exhibitors: the right players at the right time and the right place.
Run by the industry for the industry, IBC is also the opportunity to discover the latest breakthrough innovations in broadcasting. What our competitors are doing is of course important to us but we are also very interested in all technologies that, combined with ours, could add enormous value to our products and as a result to the solutions we offer to our customers. Exhibiting at IBC also enables us to gather valuable end-users’ insights, which are very helpful in our product development process to design customer-focused solutions.

With its 40’000 visitors, IBC is for us a unique showcase to present our new Fischer 1053 TM HDTV Connector, which is the first fiber-optic HDTV Connector that meets the industry’s requirements for an effortless transition to fiber-based HDTV cameras. This new connector completely portrays the evolution products followed in the development of HD. The challenge was indeed to offer HD solutions that combined two essential points: reliability and convenience. With the technology available until now, reconcile the rough field conditions of broadcasting - especially the shooting of outside events such as ski races or Formula 1 competition - with the fragility of fiber-optic was a real problem. Fiber-optic technology has long been too fragile to endure extreme climatic conditions, crushing of forklift trucks and other weight or tensions that cables could undergo during shooting. For the broadcast industry, that was a real brake to the transition to HDTV. However, HD solution – just like the new Fischer 1053 TM HDTV Connector- combining top quality transmission with ease of use, even in the harsh outside broadcasting conditions end-users face in the field, are now available. Thanks to this stunning evolution in HDTV technology, more and more broadcast companies will confidently undertake their transition to HD.
